RMOD - Daddy Mack Blues Band - February 2019

Daddy Mack is one of those "old school" cats. He has been around a long time. In the traditional sense of the blues, he's a man who works a blue collar job as a mechanic and finds the time to sit down with his guitar ( and friends) to woodshed the blues. In this appearance which happened on February 17, he brought his guitar and his friends down for a live broadcast on the Booze & Blues show. Mack is smooth and unassuming. Modest yet forceful. His style evokes old North Mississippi stomp and delta vibes. His youthful sound reaches into the gut of the Hill Country and pulls out the "today" sound you want.

In our visit he can be a bit bashful yet when his guitar turns loose, all of hell comes out and the absolute joy of the blues comes through. Here it is, his performance as raw is it should be right here.

 

RMOD - Booze and Blues - David Evans

Grammy award winning David Evans came to the Blues & Blues to talk about the history of the blues. As a professor of the genre and player of the blues, Dr. David (as he may be known) can tell you a thing or two about the blues. He is a tremendous player and a wonderful story teller. It comes with the territory. Here is his appearance on the show on SuperBowl Sunday. As it turns out, the game didn't have much of an impact on the show and Dr. Evans delivered in his great style. Plus, we all learned something as it happens every time he comes around.

Prepare yourselves for some live music and stories from the past and what we can look forward to as the blues is taken up by the up and coming youth.

 

RMOD - Booze & Blues - Brigitte Purdy and The Bush League

On January 27, 2019, Brigitte Purdy came into the Radio Memphis studios for a conversation and performance during a live broadcast of The Booze & Blues. This blues singer from Los Angeles has deep roots in the blues and his heavily influenced by the Midsouth music scene. So much so, she will be making a return appearance in our studios in May as she attend the Blues Music Awards. During this broadcast, she performed to a few backing tracks to give you a good idea of what she sounds like live. She has a new single out called Blues Collar Woman available where sold.

Also in this show, The Bush League from Richmond, Virginia performed live with a great conversation and some hot blues sounds from their current CD, James River. These guys have the North Mississippi sound right on down to their Virgina roots. It's all here and commercial free. Enjoy.

Detroit's country/rock/pop girl Paulina Jayne just dropped her latest track "Make the Moves" and calls in to Radio Memphis Around the World this past Saturday (Feb. 23rd) to catch up with D to talk about her new music that's coming, working with engineer Mills Logan (Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, Travis Tritt, Sammy Hagar, Lonestar, Sister Hazel, Rascal Flatts, Leann Rimes and more) and about some of her plans that she has in store for her fans this year.

RMOD - Casey McPherson - Around the World

While spinning some of the coolest indie music from ALL OVER the planet, D also gets to have some interesting conversations about the music industry with fantastic people from all sides of the business. After getting "airchecked" herself by her program director for quality, a lightbulb went off. Why not aircheck the industry?

 

In  this episode, D continues her chat with award-winning, Robert Scovill to get his take on the industry coming up for the sound side of the business. Robert is a 35+ year veteran of professional concert sound and recording and has mixed over 3500 events in his career, having been enlisted by acts including Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers,  Matchbox Twenty, Jackson Browne, Rush, Def Leppard, Prince and many others.  Scovill’s body of live sound and recording work has earned him well-deserved industry accolades including 6 TEC Awards for technical and creative achievement in sound reinforcement. Have you checked out High Vol Music's band Babylon Shakes out central Virginia? Influenced by bands like Aerosmith, Hanoi Rocks, New York Dolls, Child's Play and Faster Pussycat, it's Rock-n-Roll glam and sleaze at it's finest. Babylon Shakes have just dropped their album Exile to the Velveteen Lounge and checked in with D for a live phone interview this past Saturday (Feb. 2nd) to talk about their brand new release, the brotherhood they have found within each other and entertaining the masses with their love for the music by having a great time.

RMOD - Rob Youells - Life On Air Ep. 1 - Radio Memphis Around the World

When they were first introduced, she thought he was just a drummer and he probably thought she was just an on-air jock. Since then, they have gotten to know each other a little better. Now they find themselves randomly checking in with the other to see what's going on.

 

In this first episode...Rob Youells (Musician/ Actor/ Writer/ IFBB Pro Bodybuilder) calls in live and catches up with Dianna during Radio Memphis Around the World this past Saturday (January 26th) after leaving Anaheim, CA from the NAMM show and landing in Dallas, TX for a couple of days to work on a special project in a recording facility disguised as a barn. Before going out for the evening to catch up with his friends in Soulfly, Rob and D have a conversation about some of the things that he is getting into and they wind up talking to each other about life choices, people's perceptions, why you should surround yourself with positive people and more. D even looses her normal composure as a radio pro and begins to stutter.

 

As time progresses on...not only do they share fantastic tips and advice about the entertainment business, Rob and D share more and more of how the industry and their environments impact their personal lives and they wind up talking about life on air.
